Something I hate more than jean shopping....

...is swimsuit shopping.

Ew.

I haven't purchased a swimsuit in nearly 3 years. I don't do a lot of swimming...I'm more of a sun-soaker who gets in to cool off. My life situation has changed a lot over the last 3 years. I managed to stave off the freshman 15 all four years of college....and then I got married. And got a stressful job. And I like to eat when I'm stressed. Especially those foods that are really bad for you. Fatty foods. Yummy, delicious, thousand calorie packed foods. So I gained about 10 pounds. I knew it was inevitable. No big. Then I had a seizure and I became really good friends with our couch. Close friends. Too close. So I gained another 10 pounds. And somewhere in there I was replacing muscle with fat. Ew.

All that to say, we leave for Hawaii in 2 weeks and I have no adequate swimsuit! So I went to Target today to start the search. (Shocker I chose Target, I know.) No dice. While yoga is making me feel better and is slowely building my body back to what it used to be, it won't be here in time for Hawaii.

I'm just sharing because the 99% of you readers are women and you feel my pain.

dude.... 1st. Target......... NO WAY.... I have had the WORST experiences there. I had dropped about 15 lbs in a year and was all "WOO HOO" right? went to the t-get... the LARGES were too small. The swimsuit situation there should be illegal. I swear by Gap Body. now- it doesn't do miracles, but they aren't torturers either. Just a tip. best of luck - I've been there. OOh- and my mom's motto, "if you can't tone it, tan it." I bet after a day or two in the sun (barring burn) you'll be feeling a lot better. No one ... not a single person should have to try on swimsuits w/ pastey winter skin in garish store lighting w/ swimsuits that are improperly made. I hate those days.

Oh, Cara. I understand. I'm still working on the last 15ish pounds from Miles and we leave for the Bahamas in two weeks!

Okay. "Working on" is sort of a misleading phrase unless sitting on the couch counts.

But I found a tankini at Dillard's that is somewhat flattering.

I second JJ's judgment of Target clothes! I mean, I still buy them, but ALL of my shirts from there are at least a large...and that's if I want a snugly fitted shirt. Buying clothes at Target always makes me feel 20 pounds heavier than I actually am. SOOO depressing. I've had success with Gap and (surprisingly) Victoria's Secret. Usually I order online so I don't know about in-store availability. But some of my favs (and most complimented) have come from Vickys.

Happier hunting!

oh dear. i hadn't even thought of swimsuit shopping until i read this. i don't think there is a swimsuit out there to fix the damage these children have done to my body. ha. i will be wearing a lot of coverups OVER swimsuits this summer. have fun in hawaii!

oh cara my dear, i have to agree with you & my sister. though i did not effortlessly dodge the freshman 15.. i hit the out of high school 30. not cool. i'm down 10 this month though! very proud of myself i must say. all i've done differently is not dring pop or eat quite as much, though i still enjoy my treats quite frequently. just limit myself on one a day.. or less if i'm being really good.

try victorias secret swim suits.. they have stuff for EVERY body style!

I too hate swimsuit shopping. My once smaller than it is now body has gained 25 pounds since I started college and I've realized more than ever it's just going to get harder and harder to get it off. So....summer preparation here we go! :)

Having lived in wonderful Hawaii...here is the upside: NO ONE THERE CARES WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE ON THE BEACH. And when I say no one, I mean no one. And you feel a LOT better when some of the local ladies (who are stereotypically large) come trotting out, with no shame, in their little bikinis. I totally know what you mean, but seriously...you'll notice soon that everyone is too busy relaxing and enjoying the scenery to look at how well you look in your swimsuit.

I hate swimmingsuit shopping too. Not because I hate my body or anything but the whole trying on with your bra still on and it deceiving you that you actually fill out the top and then you go home and realize you don't. And the whole winter whiteness. Yuck.

all i have to say is i hate jean shopping as much as i hate swim suit shopping. i'm almost 5'9" and shopping for jeans in italy is pretty much impossible. they look at me like i'm a giant and i'm not the thinnest woman in the world either. so ... it's interesting. my jeans have holes and i have no way to replace them. haven't even thought about swim suits, i think i'll wait until i come back to oregon for a visit. :)
