hobby...but not lobby.

i need some hobbies people. i tried the painting thing...but only 4 weeks into my 16 week class i had 2 root canals and a seizure so i couldn't really finish the class. so, i have all these supplies and no idea what to do. i used to make things...like mod podge (is that right???) stuff...but i had to leave it when we started sharing a house because it was "college." i would probably be happy in a house with a wall of cork and a wall that's that chalkboard paint. (*i copyright those ideas...if you steal them and do them before we have a house and i can do it, then i'll be moderately upset and still have it in my house, except better.)i think i kinda want to be a designer. i have all these pictures and articles from magazines of awesome ideas for a living space...but of course have no funds or space to do them thanks to the laws of apartments and school debt. but seriously, i do need some hobbies to consider...any ideas?

the parameters to these suggested hobbies need to involve limited physical activity since i'm still not up to my normal functioning, little money, and able to do alone or with someone else. okay, go!

Knitting. Seriously. My mother-in-law just taught me and there are some pretty cool things you can do! Little groups you can join. Not sure about your area, but around here they have "K&B groups (Knit & Bitch). They get together at various locations around LA. Anyway...consider it!

I agree, knitting! And I'll even teach you, you'd love it! Definitely can be done laying down :)

i already know how to knit...and i'm still lacking in coordination with my right hand, so probably not the best for now. :( keep going!

Paint glass with stained glass paint and then make candles to go in the glass - cept i dunno how to find cheap supplies unless you come to Sandbridge! paint floor clothes on the backside of linoleum (and deft them to protect). Take some of your hubby's (or own) awesome pics and make tileboards (but the resin stuff is super smelly and maybe $$$). Start making gingerbread houses for the upcoming season! The kind you paint the pieces entirely with colored icing which hardens and keeps it around for basically forever - and you build it after the sides are painted. Ballet? Read those Twilight teenage vampire books? Use that paint and some scrap paper to make greeting/blank cards or postcards! Try hot yoga? K, no, don't. Sculpt stuff. You can visit Sandbridge again and we can kiln fire it for free (less transportation I suppose) :). Figure out a way to make AFFORDABLE dog, cat, and bird toys that are intended for destruction. Best I can come up with is papertowel rolls. My ideas are sucking. Sorry!!! :)

Now is your opportunity to write that space opera you're always talking about.

Also, play the guitar. Write love songs to Carl.

Don't forget haiku.
Maybe write in the mornings.
That might bring comfort.

:-P

I think the painting and knitting ideas are also good.

Ever try scrapbooking? You might have to spend a little $$ to get started, but after that, it's not bad. I used to be a Creative Memories consultant so I probably have some stuff I could give you if you're interested...
Crochet isn't bad either, of course if you're coordination isn't great that might make it more tough, but I'm not sure if that would really matter, depending on what you were trying to make. It would also be pretty cheap to get started...
Just a couple suggestions.

lately, i've been making cards and giving them as birthday presents. you could even get started on christmas cards. i found a $5.50 card at target and REFUSED to purchase it, so spent $15 and have been making TONS of cards.

also, finding recipes online and cooking is fun too. now, buying spices can be expensive, but if you buy 1 or 2 spices every time you go to the store, then you'll have a stock pile in a month or so. i try to find fancy recipes so i think i'm eating "fine food." making bread is my favorite, though! its cheap and takes no coordination... just kneading ;)

good luck on your endeavors.

CARA... a few of my ideas...

Not sure if you still have cards left over from your wedding, but if so, you can re-purpose them and create new cards! You can do this with any paper materials you find interesting... especially your magazine cut outs and cool quotes. To begin go to hobby lobby or any store that sells cards and envelopes in large amounts (100) cards to a box. (You can sometimes find killer deals in the clearance section!) Purchase the plain cards and begin decorating!

If you're down the the paper creations you could make some center piece decorations like you've seen at my house. All you need are some old magazines, a paper shredder, mod-podge, and Styrofoam balls. Shred the paper and arrange on the balls as you see fit, by gluing. WARNING: this project can be very messy and time consuming. (These make awesome Christmas ornaments or gifts for your friends!)

Begin making Christmas Ornaments. I know HOBLOB already has their clear plain ornament balls out... You can decorate those with paint, paint pens, or anything else you'd like to adorn them with. Paint can go inside or out!

I encourage you to try any or all of these! If you need help, just let me know!

I need a house cleaner - that could be considered by some to be a hobby.

Or, a laundry doer.

Or, a weed puller.

Or, an office desk cleaner offer.

Or, a car washer.

So many options, how will you choose?

cara, just make a baby! it'll consume all your waking and sleeping thoughts and you will become obsessed with reading material you never considered before. you will find lots of baby hobbies... decorating, shopping, endless decisions.... i think the chalkboard/corkboard idea would look sweet in the baby's room.
